Men's and Women's Tennis Prepare for Regular Season Finale vs. West Florida

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers men's and women's tennis teams will close their respective regular seasons on Friday at the Privateer Tennis Center when they both take on the West Florida Argonauts.

SENIOR DAY
Anastassia Kouchnareva, David Tesic and Matthew Armbruster will be honored as part of Senior Day festivities before the matches begin. Kouchnareva earned All-Southland honors in singles and has 39 career wins. Tesic currently holds the third best winning percentage in singles in the Southland this season at 11-2 and was part of two championship teams. Armbruster has also been a part of two championship teams (2022 postseason, 2023 regular season) and has earned All-Southland honors in doubles twice.

MEN'S PREVIEW
The men will head to the tournament looking to build one more notch of momentum after closing out conference play with a flourish. They scored wins over Lamar (5-2) and UIW (4-3) last week.

Marc Mail and Jay Temming each won both of their singles matches last week. Mail scored a win over 2024 Southland Freshman of the Year, Leon Nickel and Temming moved his record to 5-2 in singles on the spring campaign.

The top two flights in doubles have been tough on opponents this year. The combination of Armbruster-Sep de Visser and Temming-Joseph Townes are a combined 20-6 in doubles at flight one and two respectively.

They are facing a West Florida team that is ranked #1 in the latest NCAA Div. II rankings by the ITA. They have only one loss in 20 matches this season.

WOMEN'S PREVIEW
The women will look to end their regular season on a winning note before heading into the Southland Tournament which starts next Tuesday.

The Privateers lost both of their conference matches last week by 5-2 score lines against Lamar and UIW. New Orleans won the doubles point against UIW, but were defeated in five courts during singles play.

Kateryna Kalistratova finished Southland play with a winning record of 5-4. All five of those league wins came in three sets with the most recent occurring against Lamar last Saturday. Fleur Sprengers leads the team with 11 wins on the spring season and went 6-3 against Southland foes.

These will be the first meetings between the Privateers and Argonauts since 2013. The two teams played each other four times between 2009-13 with West Florida winning three of those four meetings.

West Florida's women's team is 13-7 on the spring season and is ranked eighth in the latest Div. II rankings.
