NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers women's tennis team will hit the road once again for a Southland battle against the McNeese Cowgirls on Monday. First serve is scheduled for 11 a.m.
New Orleans (5-9, 1-5) is coming off a 4-3 loss at Southeastern last Thursday evening. The Privateers nearly came back from a 3-0 deficit but Southeastern rallied from a set down to take the deciding match.
The Privateers will finish out their conference slate on the road. After their visit to Lake Charles, the ladies will go to Lamar (Apr. 12) and UIW (Apr. 14) before returning home for a non-conference match against West Florida.
New Orleans currently sits a half game behind UIW for seventh in the Southland standings with three matches remaining. UIW is at 1-4 against conference foes.
Fleur Sprengers and
Kateryna Kalistratova lead the way in conference wins. They both have a 4-2 mark against Southland opponents. Sprengers is 9-4 overall this season and Kalistratova added a third consecutive three-set win to her total last Thursday.
Iris Danne won her match at flight six against Southeastern and has now won back-to-back matches entering the week. Danne is one of three Privateers with six wins on the spring campaign.
The Privateers and Cowgirls have gone back and forth in the all-time series. In the last 10 meetings, McNeese has six wins to the Privateers' four.
McNeese sports a 16-4 overall record and a 4-2 mark against conference foes. The Cowgirls are currently in a tie for fourth in the Southland standings with UTRGV. Salome Fluri leads the way with an 18-2 singles record. Fluri and Stella Rundova also have 12 wins as a doubles tandem this season.
