NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers track and field team will start their indoor season with a one-day meet on Friday as they head up to Baton Rouge to participate in the LSU Purple Tiger.
Head Coach
Clayton O'Callaghan will have 17 men and 15 women making their season debut in different events.
Daryl Bachmann,
Travian Johnson and
Tshilidzi Netshiombo ran in this meet last year in the 60-meter dash as freshmen. One of the newcomers running in the event is Fort Scott CC transfer, Jonathon Scott who ran a personal best of 6.84 last season, which would rank as a top seven time in school history.
Two freshmen will perform in throws with
Antonio Creger and
Keon Woolridge participating in the shot put and the weight throw.
After running in the 600-meter last year,
Antonio Delgado will participate in the 1,000-meter this weekend along with teammates,
Chey Bridges and
Henry Livingston. A senior on the squad, Delgado will run the 1,000-meter for the first time in his collegiate indoor career.
On the women's side, the largest representation will be in the sprints. Eight different women will participate in either the 60-meter or 200-meter. Four of those women will compete in both (
Katie Burnett,
Gennieve Davis,
Dedricanna Johnson and
LeeAira Williams).
Keeping up with the theme of a young squad, five of those eight women are in their first year of collegiate eligibility.
Christina Davis will participate in the shot put and weight throw. In the shot put, Davis has the ninth best throw in school history at the Southland Indoor Championships last season (12.24 meters).
Petra Imre,
Anais Sulpice and
Michela Papalia are all entered in events this weekend. They were all Southland All-Academic selections in cross country. Imre and Papalia are in the 1,000-meter while Sulpice will run in the 600-meter.
