NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers beach volleyball team will make their season debut this weekend at the Green Wave Invitational to be held at White Sands Courts in Elmwood. The tournament will take place on Friday and Saturday and the Privateers will play four opponents.
Day one will feature action against South Florida and Spring Hill. The Saturday slate will feature competition against Tulane and Oregon. Tulane is ranked in the preseason AVCA poll while South Florida and Oregon both received votes in the poll released on Feb. 17.
Head Coach
Ryan Havice is in his second year at the helm and will have 11 newcomers to the squad this season. Among them are twin sisters and senior transfers, Ellie and
Cassie Sieling. The duo transferred from Concordia-St. Paul where they competed in indoor last fall.
Ellie had 329 kills during the season (2.67 per set) while Cassie held down the back row with 556 digs (4.34 per set).
Also new to the squad is
Lucianna Alexander who comes in from Arizona State. Alexander was a podium finisher 20 times at National Qualifiers prior to heading to Tempe. She also had two semifinal appearances in high school state championships.
The Privateers had three fall tournaments and played competition from South Florida and Tulane as part of their fall season. Alexander paired with
Ashley Salazar for a victory against a team from USF at the Coconut Beach Fall Tournament.
