NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers beach volleyball team will make the trip to Lake Charles when they participate in the Cowgirl Beach Bash on Friday and Saturday. The Privateers will play four opponents at South Beach.
New Orleans went 0-4 through the opening weekend but was competitive against tough competition at the Green Wave Invitational. The Privateers snagged three matches against South Florida and Oregon who were just outside the preseason AVCA poll.
The top two pairs both picked up two wins over the weekend.
Ashley Salazar and
Brooke Dow scored wins against Oregon and Spring Hill. Salazar and Dow played at flight two and pushed South Florida's flight two pair to extra rallies in three sets.
Cassie and
Ellie Sieling made their debut at flight one and went undefeated on the first day of competition in the opening weekend. The twin sisters were dominant in the second set of their 21-19, 21-11 win against South Florida's top pair. They followed that up with a straight set win against Spring Hill.
New Orleans will be playing their first conference match as well when they face Stephen F. Austin to open their stay in the tournament on Friday morning. New Orleans will also play Mary-Hardin Baylor on Friday before turning their attention to Saturday matches against Texas A&M-Kingsville and McNeese.
Though the Privateers will play McNeese three times, only one will count toward the conference standing and that's when they play each other in the Southland Mid-Conference in March.
