NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers beach volleyball team turned in two solid performances across the board as they defeated the Mobile Rams 4-1 and 5-0 in a Friday doubleheader at the Privateer Beach Courts. Their winning streak now stands at five matches.
MATCH ONE: NEW ORLEANS-4 MOBILE-1
The momentum of the opening match turned when
Mona Salgado and
Kylie Lyons engineered a big comeback late in the second set. After dropping the first 21-16, the duo fell behind 16-12 in the second.
However, they went on a tear down the stretch, ending on a 10-4 stretch to take the second set in extra rallies 22-20. They used that momentum to kick clear shortly after the second side change in the third set on their way to a 15-9 win.
The Privateers won in straight sets at flights one, three and five.
Lindsey Neal and
Jordan Madsen gradually pulled away in each set to win 21-13, 21-15.
Lucianna Alexander and
Renata Dykstra dominated the first set and spurted ahead late in the second of a 21-9, 21-16 win.
Cassie and
Ellie Sieling left no doubt in the first set of a 21-10, 21-15 win. The Sieling sisters almost never trailed in the match.
MATCH TWO: NEW ORLEANS-5 MOBILE-0
The Privateers put up a clean sweep winning all five matches in straight sets to finish out the day.
Ashley Salazar and
Brooke Dow flipped the script after the first match. They scored a win in straight sets by surging ahead from a 14-14 tie in the second set. They notched seven of the last 10 points in the set as they won 21-15, 21-18.
There were five sets that the Privateers won by double digits. The Sieling twins dominated once again in a 21-9, 21-7 win. Salgado and Lyons grabbed control early in both sets of a 21-9, 21-10 victory.
Neal and Madsen ended the first set on an 8-3 spurt and pulled away in the back half of the second set of a 21-11, 21-16 win. Alexander and Dykstra went on a run of seven straight points in the second set of a 21-14, 21-10 decision.
Sadie Elliott and Shaylee Swartezndruber also notched a win at flight six in the second match by a 21-13, 21-18 score line.

The Privateers will play at the Battle on the Bayou hosted in Baton Rouge starting next Friday.
