GULF SHORES, Ala. (Oct. 28, 2003) – Kevin Maxwell fired a final-round 68 to finish tied for second in the 54-hole Fall Beach Classic here Tuesday at the Gulf Shores Golf Club. The University of New Orleans team finished 14th in the 15-team field with a three-round stroke total of 869.
Maxwell, a senior from Cumberland, B.C., completed his three rounds with a total of 205. That score was good for 11-under par, tying him with Brad Quiri of South Florida who notched a final-round 67. Barry Rook of UCF won the individual title by shooting a 68 over the final 18 holes for a 201 total and four-stroke win.
The Privateers, which held a piece of 12th place after the first day, collected an overall score of 288 the final round to finish one-stroke behind Oral Roberts in the team scoring. South Florida won the team title with an 836 in the tournament that was hosted by the University of South Alabama.
Junior Aaron Moreno was the next finisher for the Privateers with a 34th place tie on the strength of a final-round 70 to finish one-under par at 215.
Justin Lotz followed Moreno in a tie for 69th as he posted a 72 in the final round for a stroke total of 225. Anthony Klingensmith was next with a 74th place tie as he shot a 78 Tuesday for a 231 total and Brandon Suzuki tied for 76th after collecting a 78 over the last 18 holes to post a total score of 231.
