Men's Golf Up to Fifth; Women Fall to Ninth At Sun Belt Championships

DAY ONE RECAP 

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (Apr. 18, 2006) -
The University of New Orleans men's golf team is in fifth place, while the women sit in ninth after two rounds of the Aeropostale Sun Belt Conference Championships held Tuesday at the PGA Village.

UNO (+9) shot a tournament best six-under par team total on the men's side during the second day to move 13 strokes behind leader Western Kentucky (-4), which its second consecutive under par round.

South Alabama (+1) is in second, followed by Troy (+6), North Texas (+8), UNO, Arkansas St. (+12), Arkansas-Little Rock (+16), Denver (+20), Middle Tennessee (+25) and Louisiana-Lafayette (+28).

UNO's Anthony Cantu (-2) had a second round 68 and is tied for fifth. Cantu is seven strokes behind Western Kentucky's Brent Long (-9) who leads the individual championship.

Kenji Murayama (+2) was one of three Privateers with under par rounds on the day as he shot a 69 to move into a tie for 16th place with Teammate Santiago Escobar (+2) who shot a 74.

Adam Collins (+10) is tied for 37th after shooting a 71, while Adam Cornelson (+13) had a 77 and is tied for 41st.

On the women's side, UNO (+68) shot a combined total of 327 on day two. The Privateers trail North Texas (+34) who leads the team competition.

Arkansas-Little Rock (+37) and Florida International (+37) are tied for second, followed by Denver (+38), Middle Tennessee (+41), Arkansas St. (+51), South Alabama (+52), Western Kentucky (+66), UNO, and Troy (+125).

UNO's Josefine Danielsson (+13) is tied for 20th after shooting a second round 80.

Tara Watters (+15) is two strokes back in a 27th place tie after tallying an 81, while Theunette van der Walt (+19) had an 84 and is tied for 37th.

Mariale Camey (+21) is in 41st and Matilda Forsstrom (+28) sits in 46th after shooting respective rounds of 82 and 87.

Andra Lancaster (+4) of North Texas and Sara Wilkstrom (+4) of Arkansas-Little Rock are tied for first.

The tournament will conclude Wednesday with the final round set to begin at 7 a.m.
