MILWAUKEE - The University of New Orleans women's basketball team will play a Big East foe for the first time in 18 years as they travel to Marquette for a 7 p.m. showdown on Tuesday night at the Al Maguire Center.
UNO (0-6) is in the midst of an eight-game, 33-day stretch in which they remain away from the friendly confines of Lakefront Arena. The Lady Privateers dropped a pair of the games over the weekend in Arkansas, falling to Arkansas-Monticello and Ouachita Baptist.
The games represented a contrast in offensive production for UNO.
Against UAM on Friday, the Lady Privateers shot a season-high 46 percent from the field, helping the team establish a season's best of 67 points. The team also connected on five three-pointers to post a season high 41.7 percent outing from beyond the arc.
Keri Thomas was the star of the contest, pouring in a career-high 16 points while pulling down a career-best 11 rebounds for the junior transfer's first double-double.
Less than 24 hours later, the results were not the same against OBU.
UNO's 43 points were the second lowest of the season with the team establishing lows in field goals made, assists and turnovers. The trio of
Mirjam Sipos,
Yosha Watson and
Carla Russell accounted for 33 of the team's points in the contest.
On the year, Sipos is averaging a team-high 12.7 points per game while also pacing the team in steals (16) and assists (18). Watson, who began the season by posting double-doubles in her first two collegiate contests, is at nine points and 7.8 rebounds an outing.
MU (3-3) enters the week after falling in 2 of 3 games at the U.S. Virgin Islands Paradise Jam. The Golden Eagles defeated Prairie View A&M in a game sandwiched by losses to Washington State and Michigain.
Overall, MU has lost 3 of 4 games after starting the season with two wins.
The Golden Eagles are led by the duo of Katherine Plouffe and Sarina Simmons, who average 13.5 and 13.3 points per game, respectively. Simmons has been the leading scorer in three contests this year including consecutive contests of at least 20 points against Wisconsin and Georgia Tech prior to last week's tournament.
The game between UNO and MU will be available in the form of live stats and video on GoMarquette.com.
The Lady Privateers will return to action on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. in the first half of a doubleheader against Dillard at 'The Battlefield'. The UNO men will play at 7:30 p.m.
