Lady Privateers Fall at Marquette

UNO Returns to Crescent City to Face Dillard Thursday

MILWAUKEE – Playing their third game in five days, the University of New Orleans women's basketball team fell 96-35 to Marquette on Tuesday night at the Al Maguire Center.

Five players reached double-figure scoring for MU (4-3), awarding head coach Terri Mitchell with her 300th victory at the helm of the Golden Eagles program.

Apiew Ojulu was the top player on the night for MU with 21 points and 14 rebounds. Katherine Plouffe added 14 rebounds of her own to go with 16 points, joining Ojulu as double-double performers.

Mirjam Sipos led UNO (0-7) with nine points with Tiffany Wallace adding in another seven.

Other top performers for the Lady Privateers included Mechel'le Thomas, who distributed four assists with her three steals, while Spring Drake led UNO with four rebounds.

MU shot 51.3 for the game, connecting on 39 of 76 attempts from the field.

The Golden Eagles drained eight three-pointers for the contest, but made their most noticeable impact on the boards. The hosts out-rebounded the Lady Privateers 55-17 and won the second-chance points battle 33-0.

As a unit, the UNO offense shot 29.5 percent for the game, including a 31.6 clip during the game's first half. The Lady Privateers improved their scoring in the last 20 minutes of the game by taking advantage of their opportunity at the charity stripe, making 6 of 8 attempts at the line.

UNO will now turn its attention to a contest on Thursday night at 5:30 p.m. against Dillard. The game is the backend of a doubleheader with the UNO men, who will tip off at 7:30 p.m.
