Box Score NEW ORLEANS - Zach Kelt provided a quality start on the
mound in his University of New Orleans debut as the Privateers posted an 8-2
win in the team's home opener over Southern on Saturday afternoon at the
Maestri Field.
Kelt (1-0) allowed two hits and two runs - one earned - over
six innings of work, while striking out five SU (1-1) hitters. The sophomore
transfer left the game with a 6-2 lead before handing the ball over to the UNO
(1-1) bullpen.
Privateer relievers Garrett Manning, Coby Landry and Tyler Sanders each pitched a single inning of scoreless relief to close out the
Jaguars.
Brandon Simon scored three runs in the game with Corey Laudermill and Chris Geronimo adding two apiece for the home team.
UNO scored two runs in the third inning with help from SU
starter Cody Hall (0-1), who walked two and a wild pitch to set up a two-run
double by Nolan Church.
In the fourth, Cody Hall again had control issues allowing
two more walks with Beau Boudreaux driving in two RBIs on a fielder's choice
following an error by the Jaguars' Frazier Hall. UNO added a run apiece in the
sixth, seventh and eighth innings to pad the lead.
For the game, Cody Hall allowed five runs - four earned - on
four hits while walking two over 3 1/3 innings of work. UNO tacked on two more
runs against SU reliever Zephan Rochelle.
Ozzie Lamis and Taylor Roy each went 1-for-4 at the plate with
a run to pace the Jaguars' offense.
The two teams will play the rubber game of their three-game
series at Lee-Hines Field in Baton Rouge at 1 p.m. Updates as available will be
