FRISCO, Texas – The New Orleans Privateers swept the final week of Southland awards announced by the conference office.
Kruise Newman earned Hitter of the Week while
Luke Lycette won Pitcher of the Week.
Newman finished the season on a tear with a 10-game hitting streak. In the final week of the season, he went 7-for-14 at the plate and had three home runs along with nine RBI. The senior hit a home run in all three of the Privateers' victories against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
Newman finished his 2026 campaign with 14 home runs, 48 RBI and a .560 slugging percentage. He ranked in the top eight in all three of those categories among all Southland hitters. He also finished ninth in the conference in runs scored with 43.
Lycette set the tone for the Privateers on Thursday night. He threw the first nine-inning complete game by a Privateer pitcher since 2023 when Brandon Mitchell did it against McNeese. Lycette allowed two unearned runs on five hits in the Privateers' 9-2 series opening victory against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
The senior finished with five wins and three saves for the Privateers. His five victories tied him for seventh among all Southland pitchers. The William Carey transfer earned his second Pitcher of the Week honor this season after he accomplished the feat following the McNeese series.
Monday marked the first time the Privateers swept both weekly conference awards since the last week of 2023 when Mitchell Sanford earned Hitter of the Week and Mitchell won Pitcher of the Week.
