NATCHITOCHES - The University of New Orleans baseball team
will compete in the Northwestern State Invitational this weekend, beginning
Friday against the host Northwestern State at 6:30 p.m. UNO will also play ULM
on Saturday at 11 a.m. with a game against Stephen F. Austin on Sunday at 11
a.m.
Live stats for all three games will be available on
NSUDemons.com.
This weekend's tournament is the first of two consecutive
weekends of round-robin format events for UNO (1-3), who will compete at the
Dallas Baptist Invitational next weekend.
The Privateers have dropped two straight games since an 8-2
victory over Southern last Saturday in the team's opener.
Southpaw Robert Ormsbee (0-0, 99.00 ERA) will get the start
Friday against NSU (2-2). RHP Tyler
Sanders (0-0, 0.00 ERA) will make his first start since 2009 on Saturday against ULM (2-3) with RHP Cory Myers
(0-1, 15.75 ERA) taking the mound against SFA (2-3)
to close out the weekend.
Offensively, UNO is hitting .228 on the young season with
three batters topping .300 on the season. Nolan Church is hitting .375 with a
home run and three RBIs to lead the Privateers with Chris Geronimo and Andrew
Garcia hitting .333 and .308, respectively.
NSU won two of three games against BYU at home to open their
year before falling 6-4 against Mississippi State on Tuesday. Luke Irvine (1-0,
1.50 ERA) will get the ball for the Demons after allowing one run in six
innings in a season-opening win against the Cougars last Friday.
ULM split a four-game season-opening series at home against
UT-San Antonio last weekend before falling to Southern Miss in a mid-week
contest on Tuesday. The Warhawks won two of three games against the Privateers
last year in Monroe and will send left-handed pitcher Randy Zeigler (0-0, 9.82
ERA) in Saturday's contest.
SFA will start Justin Braddock (0-1, 3.00 ERA) in Sunday's
contest, after the right-handed pitcher allowed just three hits and two earned
runs in six innings of work in a tough luck loss to UALR last weekend. The
Lumberjacks split four games with the Trojans before four errors proved costly
in a road loss to Houston on Tuesday.
After this weekend's tournament, UNO will get a rare
mid-week off before facing Dallas Baptist to begin the DBU Invitational on
Thursday. The Privateers will also face Wichita State and UT-Arlington during
the three days in Dallas.
