Troy Erases Early Deficit, Claims Series Opener vs UNO

Farrell Homers for Privateers for Early Lead

Box Score

TROY, Ala. - A Todd McRae grand slam was part of a seven-run fourth inning that erased an early University of New Orleans lead as Troy won the opener of a four-game series with a 15-2  victory on Friday night.

Trailing 1-0 after three innings, Troy (10-3) bounced back quickly in the fourth as the first seven batters reached base in the frame, highlighted by the McRae grand slam. The grand slam was the lone hit for McRae, who would end the night with six RBIs despite just totaling one hit in three official plate appearances.

The Trojans were led at the plate by Adam Bryant and Logan Pierce, who had matching 2-for-4 outings. Both scored two runs apiece with Martz also adding two RBIs to his count.

On the mound, the team was lifted by starter Tyler Ray (4-0), who scattered two runs on six hits over seven innings. William Teal and Nick Ward pitched an inning each of scoreless relief.

UNO (1-2) scored the first run of the game on a Steffan Farrell home run in the third inning and added a second run in the fifth when Chris Geronimo singled home Cameron Wheeless, who led off the inning with a double.

Michael Tedesco had his second multi-hit game of the season in leading the Privateers with a 2-for-4 outing at the plate. Blake LeBlanc extended his hitting streak to five games with a second inning double and now has hits in 10 of the last 11 games.

Tyler Sanders (0-3) took the loss, allowing eight runs - all earned - on seven hits, while striking out four in six innings. Sanders held the Trojans off the scoreboard for the first three innings before the hosts scored seven in the fourth and a single run in the fifth.

Troy took advantage of two errors and two wild pitches to add four runs in the seventh. The Trojans would score their final three runs in the eighth as Josh Fountain struggled in his collegiate debut with four walks amongst eight batters faced during a single inning of work.

The two teams will resume their series on Saturday with a doubleheader at 1 p.m. before playing a single game on Sunday, also at 1 p.m. Live video, audio and stats are available at TroyTrojans.com.
