Privateers Return Home to Face McNeese

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers return home for the first time in over two weeks when they start a three-game series against the McNeese Cowboys on Thursday at Maestri Field. First pitch for the series opener is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

ROTATION:
THURSDAY: UNO-RHP Reid Leonard vs. MCN-LHP Cooper Golden
FRIDAY: UNO-RHP William Andrade vs. MCN-RHP Paul Coppinger
SATURDAY: UNO-TBA vs. MCN-TBA

The Privateers ended a 10-game road trip on a strong note, defeating South Alabama 2-1 on Tuesday in Mobile. New Orleans notched their fifth consecutive victory over South Alabama on Tuesday night. It's the longest winning streak since the Privateers won eight straight against the Jaguars from 1992-95. The one run allowed was the fewest allowed by the Privateers against South Alabama in the last 48 meetings dating back to 2004.

Lane Alack moved into a tie for the conference lead in saves after his third save of the season on Tuesday night. Alack is averaging just over two innings per appearance and he leads the pitching staff in strike percentage, throwing nearly 62 percent of his pitches for strikes.

New Orleans has been on the upswing in the field over their last seven games. The Privateers have played four error-free games and have five errors in that span contrasted with a seven-game stretch from March 11-20 that saw them commit 13 errors in that stretch and have just one game without an error.

Kruise Newman has four multi-hit games in his last six starts after turning in another two-hit performance against South Alabama. Newman leads the team in home runs with eight and RBI with 28 entering the weekend. He also has nine RBI in that stretch.

The Privateers are looking to turn around a series that's mostly been controlled by McNeese since 2014. The Cowboys have won 27 of 36 meetings against New Orleans since the Privateers joined the Southland. McNeese leads the overall series 42-30.

ABOUT THE OPPONENT
McNeese enters the weekend at 6-6 in conference play and 15-14 overall after defeating the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns 10-7. The Cowboys have at least 10 hits in five of their last eight games entering the weekend. Matt Stancliff leads the Southland in stolen bases with 17 and has not been caught once this season. On the mound, McNeese pitchers have struck out 300 batters, second most in the conference.
