UNO Game Notes - Tulane
NEW ORLEANS - The University of New Orleans baseball team will make the shortest road trip of its two-month, 34-game road trip when it makes the nine mile trek Uptown to face cross-town rival Tulane at Turchin Stadium for a three-game series this weekend.
The two teams will play at 6:30 p.m. on Friday with first pitch scheduled for 2 p.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday. The games will be broadcast locally on WIST 690 AM with additional live stat and video coverage available through the TulaneGreenWave.com web site.
UNO (1-15) won 2 of 3 games against Tulane (13-4) last season in head coach Bruce Peddie's first year at the helm of the Privateer program. The home team won the first two games with UNO claiming the 'winner-take-all' finale at Turchin Stadium.
Tyler Sanders (0-3, 9.47 ERA) is slated to take the mound in Friday's opener for the Privateers against Green Wave pitcher Conrad Flynn (1-2, 2.16 ERA). Southpaw Robert Ormsbee (0-2, 14.34 ERA) will make his first start since Feb. 25 on Saturday with Zach Kelt (1-2, 9.82 ERA) rounding out the weekend.
Tulane head coach Rick Jones will start Kyle McKenzie (1-2, 2.40 ERA) on Saturday and has not yet named a pitcher for Sunday's series finale. The Green Wave will likely start Robby Broach (1-0, 1.64 ERA) or Drew Zizinia (0-0, 3.00 ERA).
In UNO's recent series against Troy, Cameron Wheeless was the top batter with at least 10 at bats, going 4-for-13 (.308 batting average) with three doubles and an RBI over four games. Wheeless carries a five-game hitting streak into the series.
Jeremy Schaffer is Tulane's lone hitter above .300 with a .391 batting average while starting all 17 contests. Schaffer is also the team leader in runs (13), doubles (11) and RBIs (13).
Following this weekend's series, UNO will continue its season next Tuesday at Southeastern Louisiana. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m.
