No. 22 Tulane Builds Up Early Advantage in 7-4 Win vs UNO

Green Wave Led 6-0 after Second Inning

Box Score

NEW ORLEANS - No. 22 Tulane picked up a 7-4 victory over the University of New Orleans on Saturday afternoon at Turchin Stadium in the second of a three-game series.

Brennan Middleton went 3-for-4 and led a group of four TU (15-4) players that had at least two hits.

Jeremy Schaffer, Blake Crohan and Bowen Woodson were part of the group as Schaffer tallied two RBIs with Crohan producing a sixth-inning home run for a Green Wave squad that build up a 6-0 advantage after two innings.

TU scored a single run in their first opportunity at the plate before putting five on the scoreboard in the second inning. The Green Wave capitalized on a fielding error with two outs by UNO (1-17) that prevented the Privateers from getting out of the inning unscathed.

Despite the 6-0 deficit after two innings, UNO did not give in.

Nolan Church, who hit 2-for-4 in the game with three RBIs, factored into the Privateers' lone run in the fourth and all three runs in the fifth. The senior scored on a Steffan Farrell single in the fourth before driving home a trio of teammates with a triple in the fifth.

A sixth inning home run by Crohan completed the scoring for TU as the Privateers could not muster offense against a Green Wave bullpen for any further offense production.

Kyle McKenzie (2-2) was the pitcher of record for the Green Wave, allowing four runs on six hits, while striking out a career-high eight in six innings.

Alex Facundus did not allow a hit in two innings of relief before Nick Pepitone closed out the game for TU by retiring three consecutive Privateer batters.

Robert Ormbsee (0-3) took the loss for UNO, allowing six runs - one earned - over two innings. The left-handed pitcher allowed eight hits to the 15 batters he faced before Garrett Manning allowed just a single run in 4 1/3 innings of relief.

Coby Landry pitched 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief to wrap up the pitching duties for the Privateers.

The two teams will conclude their weekend series at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
