UNO Game Notes - Southeastern
HAMMOND, La. - The University of New Orleans will travel to Alumni Field on Tuesday for a 6 p.m. contest against in-state foe Southeastern Louisiana.
Live stats and audio for the contest will be available on LionSports.net.
UNO (1-18) and SLU (13-7) will be meeting on the diamond for the first time since 2005 in a series that dates back to 1970. The first game in Privateer history came against the Lions with the New Orleans-based squad picking up a 7-6 win in Hammond, La. under then-head coach Bob Hines.
Tuesday night, Bruce Peddie will send southpaw Robert Ormbsee (0-3, 12.79 ERA) as part of a 'Johnny Wholestaff' effort against SLU in which several pitchers are expected to follow Ormbsee out of the bullpen.
Ormbsee took the loss in Saturday's game against Tulane after allowing six runs - one earned - on eight hits in two innings of work. The junior college transfer gave up five runs in the second inning after a Privateer fielding error with two outs allowed the frame to continue.
Offensively, Nolan Church is hitting his stride again. The senior erased a 4-for-35 slump entering the series against the Green Wave by hitting 5-for-12 for a .417 batting average. Prior to the Tulane series, Church had watched his batting average drop from .429 to .254.
The Lions, who snapped a three-game losing streak with a victory over McNeese on Sunday, will look to Matt Pittari (0-0, 1.76 ERA) as the starter on Tuesday night. Pittari will make his first start since a Mar. 7 contest against Sacred Heart and allowed just one run over his last 7 2/3 innings out of the bullpen since that start.
At the plate, Justin Boudreaux is hitting .398 to pace the Lions with Jonathan Pace setting the tone right behind him with a .390 batting average. As a collective, SLU is hitting .298 with 137 runs to just .254 and 86 runs by opposing teams.
Following Tuesday night's game, UNO will return to the road for a series at St. Mary's (Calif.) beginning on Friday at 5 p.m CT with games continuing at 3 p.m. CT on Saturday and Sunday.
