UNO Game Notes - Saint Mary's
MORAGA, Calif. - The University of New Orleans will makes it longest trip of the season this weekend as they visit Saint Mary's for a three-game series.
The schedule was shifted due to inclement weather expected in the area, with the two teams scheduled to contest a doubleheader at 2 p.m. CST on Friday with the series finale scheduled for 3 p.m. CST on Sunday.
All three games will have live audio and stats available on the SMCGaels.com web site.
UNO (1-19) is halfway to the finish line of a 34-game road trip which concludes against Nicholls State at Maestri Field on Apr. 19. This weekend's journey of 2,266 miles is the longest of the year and the only trip topping the 2000-mile plateau.
Despite losses in their last 18 games and a 0-15 road record, the Privateers are starting to turn the corner. UNO has led in only seven of their 20 games this year, including their last two, in which they jumped out to leads early in the contest.
On the mound, the pitching continues to improve and adapt to the Division I level with the Privateer pitchers posting a 7.16 ERA over the last four contests compared to a 12.07 ERA over the first 16 games of the season.
The UNO pitching will look to continue that trend when right-handed pitcher Tyler Sanders (0-4, 9.69 ERA) takes the mound on Friday. He will be followed by Zach Kelt (1-3, 9.00 ERA) in the second game of Friday's doubleheader with Garrett Manning (0-2, 10.97 ERA) throwing Sunday.
SMC won a mid-week game at Nevada after splitting four games with UC-Riverside on the road last weekend.
The Gaels anticipate starting Mark Anderson (3-1, 1.95 ERA) on Friday along with Kyle Barraclough (0-3, 4.61 ERA) to round out the doubleheader with Martin Agosta (1-3, 4.12 ERA) expected to pitch on Sunday.
Justin Fazio is the top hitter with a .367 batting average with Patrick Wisdom adding a .313 batting average to a squad that is hitting .242 on the season.
Following the weekend series, UNO will return to the Crescent City on Monday ahead of mid-week games on Tuesday and Wednesday at Tulane and Southeastern Louisiana, respectively. The Privateers will then return to California for a four-game series against San Diego next weekend.
