FRISCO, Texas –
Luke Lycette won Southland Pitcher of the Week honors announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon after pitching in three high leverage situations that all resulted in wins for the New Orleans Privateers.
Lycette threw a total of 128 pitches between the midweek win against South Alabama and two weekend victories over McNeese. In that span, Lycette did not give up a run over 8.2 innings and recorded 10 strikeouts.
The week started with a 2-1 win for the Privateers over South Alabama. Lycette was the bridge to
Lane Alack who closed the game down. Lycette pitched two scoreless innings, which helped set the stage for Alack's save.
On Friday, Lycette was called on for a six-out save and he delivered for the Privateers who bounced back from an extra inning loss in the series opener. Lycette struck out two over the final two innings to help the Privateers preserve a 5-2 victory.
The series closed on Saturday and Lycette was money in extra innings. After the Cowboys rallied to tie the game in the top of the ninth, Lycette allowed just two baserunners over the next four innings while smashing his previous season high in strikeouts.
Lycette racked up seven strikeouts over 4.1 innings, which eclipsed an outing where he had four in three innings against Stephen F. Austin. The Privateers got a walk-off single from
Eli Tidwell in the bottom of the 13
th to give Lycette his first decision of the season.
Lycette becomes the first Privateer to win a weekly conference award this season. The most recent Pitcher of the Week honor was
Grant Edwards who won the award on Mar. 31, 2025.
The Privateers will travel to Southern Miss on Tuesday before heading to Illinois this weekend.
