HAMMOND, La. – The University of New Orleans offense failed to produce a run for the third time in four games, falling 11-0 to Southeastern Louisiana on Wednesday night at Alumni Field.
The SLU (17-9) pitching staff combined to hold UNO (1-23) to seven hits over nine innings while striking out 12.
Josh Janway (2-0) was the pitcher of record after allowing two hits over the first four innings of the game, striking out five. Joseph Koon, Matt Pittari, Dylan Hills and Jacob Ott followed in order out of the bullpen for the shutout effort.
The Lions were led at the plate by Cass Hargis, who went 3-for-5 with a run and an RBI. Three players additional tallied at least two hits apiece with Jonathan Pace, Jeff Harkensse and Britt Gautreaux having two RBIs each.
Hargis factored into the scoring in the second inning when he doubled in Alex Marse to give the hosts a 1-0 lead. A pair of UNO errors and a Hargis single put another run on the board for SLU in the fourth inning.
The Lions remained ahead 2-0 until putting five runs on the board in the sixth inning, taking advantage of four hits, two walks and a wild pitch to post the big inning. SLU added a second big inning in the eighth by scoring four additional runs on just two hits in the frame.
Robert Ormsbee (0-5) took the loss for UNO after allowing five runs – four earned – on eight hits in 5 1/3 innings while striking out four and walking three.
Beau Boudreaux was 3-for-4 for the Privateers while Michael Tedesco batted 2-for-4. No other member of the UNO roster had a hit in the game until Nolan Church and Cameron Wheeless led off the ninth with consecutive base hits.
The Privateers will pack their bags upon returning to the Crescent City as they will depart for San Diego on Thursday morning for a four-game series. The Toreros (4-17) and UNO will get the series started at 5 p.m. on Friday.
