Wichita State Strikes Early, Defeats UNO Baseball 11-2

Box Score DALLAS - No. 19 Wichita State scored six runs over the first three innings on way to an 11-2 victory over the University of New Orleans on the second day of the Dallas Baptist Patriot Invitational on Friday afternoon.

Johnny Coy and Chris O'Brien had three RBIs apiece to lead WSU (8-1). Coy went 2-for-2 while O'Brien was 2-for-5.

Josh Smith picked up the win for WSU, pitching five innings and giving up a single run while allowing five hits. The bullpen followed suit with three pitchers combining to pitch the final four innings and allowing just three hits.

UNO (1-8) scored in the first inning after an error allowed Beau Boudreaux to reach base with consecutive singles by Cameron Wheeless and Michael Tedesco scoring Boudreaux. The Shockers responded with four runs in the bottom of the frame.

A trio of singles in the second inning provided the second run for the Privateers. Blake DesRoches reached base with Blake LeBlanc and Zach Pohto also providing hits. Pohto and LeBlanc both had two hits apiece for UNO.

After the Privateers cut the lead to 4-2, they were held off the scoreboard the remainder of the game. WSU scored a run apiece in the fourth and fifth inning with three scores in the eighth.

Tyler Sanders (0-2) took the loss by allowing eight runs - seven earned - over five innings. Sanders struck out two while struggling with control and allowing five walks. Coby Landry pitched two scoreless innings in relief without yielding a hit.

The Privateers will conclude their weekend on Saturday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. against UT-Arlington.
