DALLAS - For the second straight weekend, the University of New Orleans will come home without a victory at a three-team tournament, falling 14-0 to UT-Arlington on the final day of the Dallas Baptist Patriot Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
The win was the third in three days for UT-A (5-5) as Michael Oberto (2-0) allowed just five UNO (1-9) hits over eight innings. Oberto walked just one while striking out four, before Chase Weaver faced just three batters in closing out the ninth.
The Mavs posted 11 runs over the first three innings of the game.
Six of the first seven batters of the game reached base as UT-A jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning against UNO starter Cory Myers (0-2). Myers returned for the second inning, but could not register an out, allowing six runs on four hits with three walks in one official inning on the mound.
The Mavs added five runs on Scott Stonestreet, who finished the second inning off and pitched the third inning. Privateer relievers Corey Laudermill and Jonathan Carbo kept UT-A off the scoreboard before Nolan Church made his collegiate pitching debut over the final two innings, allowing three runs - two earned.
Chad Comer led the Mavericks with a 3-for-4 outing at the plate, scoring two runs. Comer was part ofa group of four players at the top of the lineup that scored at least two runs apiece with Michael Guerra, the No. 3 hole hitter, scoring three runs.
Beau Boudreaux was the top hitter for the Privateers, going 2-for-3 at the leadoff position. Cameron Wheeless, Jake Palmisano and Blake LeBlanc all added a hit apiece.
UNO will continue its two-month long journey away from Maestri Field when they play a pair of mid-week games at Tennessee. First pitch is scheduled on Tuesday and Wednesday for 4 p.m.
