Box Score KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Tennessee exploded for nine runs and eight hits during the fifth inning to take a 14-0 victory in the opening game of a doubleheader with the University of New Orleans on Tuesday afternoon.
The second game of the doubleheader was called off due to inclement weather and will take place on Wednesday at 4 p.m. The game was originally scheduled for Wednesday, but was moved up to Tuesday due to anticipated weather forecasts.
UT (8-2) led 5-0 after after scoring a pair of runs in the second and three more in the fourth before jumping on UNO (1-10) in the fifth inning of the game that was shortened to seven innings.
The loss tied a Privateer school-record for consecutive losses with their ninth straight.
Chris Fritts went 3-for-4 with three runs and four RBIs to pace the Vols' offensive effort. Matt Duffy and Chris Pierce had three RBIs apiece for UT, as the team was a combined 14-of-31 at the plate.
Rob Catapano (1-0) allowed three hits in four innings of work for the Vols with Nick Williams allowing two more in relief. Matt Ramsey pitched the final frame for the Vols as the pitching staff allowed just five hits to UNO, striking out seven.
Zach Kelt fell to 1-2 on the season after allowing five runs on four hits in 3 2/3 innings.
