NORMAL, Ala. –  The University of New Orleans prevented Alabama A&M from reaching a three-game win streak for the first time on the season by posting a 5-4 victory in the finale of a weekend series between the two teams at Bulldog Field.

Steffan Farrell went 2-for-5 with and had a pair of crucial RBIs as UNO (3-29) won a 10-inning affair against AAMU (6-25) by rallying from an early 3-0 deficit.

Trailing 3-2 entering the eighth inning, Farrell delivered an RBI single to score teammate Cameron Wheeless and knot the game. Nolan Church advanced to third base on the single and would score the go-ahead run in the frame on an Andrew Garcia sacrifice fly.

AAMU answered back in the bottom of the eighth to tie the score before Farrell provided the knockout punch in the top of the 10th inning with a double that scored Wheeless from first base. Wheeless had led off the inning with a single.

Tyler Sanders (1-7) retired the side in the Bulldogs' half of the 10th to seal the victory for the Privateers. It was a successful outing for Sanders, who moved out of the starting rotation and into the bullpen this week.

Sanders allowed one run on two hits while striking out two in his three innings of work. Sanders relieved Coby Landry to start the eighth after Landry held the hosts off the scoreboard for four innings, while allowing just two hits.

James Brown (1-1) was on the wrong side of the result for AAMU after throwing six innings of relief for starter Norb Riggins. Brown yielded three runs – two earned – on five hits while striking out five during his stint in the ballgame.

Wheeless was 2-for-3 with two runs to join Farrell in the role of coming up with timely appearances on base. Jake Palmisano was the third player on head coach Bruce Peddie's squad with two hits and along with Blake DesRoches, accounted for UNO's pair of runs in the fifth inning.

The Privateers will enjoy some time off before resuming their 2011 campaign on Friday at 6 p.m. against Southern Miss. The three-game series in Hattiesburg, Miss. will close out the team's 33-game, two month journey away from home.
