SAN DIEGO – San Diego bounced back with a win on Sunday, defeating the University of New Orleans 12-5 at Cunningham Field in the finale of a four-game series.

Less than 24 hours after being victim as UNO (2-26) snapped a 24-game losing streak and posted its first shutout since the 2008 Sun Belt Conference tournament, USD (7-19) was anxious to get runs on the scoreboard. The hosts scored in five of their first six opportunities.

With runs being scored frequently, an early 1-0 deficit was the only one the Toreros had to overcome in the contest. USD totaled 15 hits in the contest and used a six-run sixth inning to pull away from the Privateers.

Corey LeVier, who was held without a hit in three plate appearances in the Saturday loss, bounced back like his team. LeVier added a 3-for-5 performance with two runs and an RBI to finish 8-of-15 in Torero victories during the series.

Kris Bryant and Bryan Haar had matching 2-for-4 efforts with Bryant scoring three runs and adding two RBIs to his numbers.

The effort by the USD offense backed up the pitching effort of the debuting Michael Wagner, who allowed three runs on six hits with two strikeouts in four innings. Wagner departed the game with a 6-3 lead before Paul Paez (2-2) got the win in relief by allowing one run on two hits over four innings.

UNO was led once more by Beau Boudreaux, who finished off a 7-of-16 weekend with a 2-for-3 day. The shortstop had a hand in the early runs for the Privateers, scoring on a Michael Tedesco single in the first inning before doubling Blake LeBlanc into scoring position in the third.

Two of the remaining three runs were manufactured by Steffan Farrell, who was singled home by Zach Pohto in the fourth inning and by Hunter Boudreaux in the sixth. Farrell went 2-for-4, joining Beau Boudreaux and Pohto in the multi-hit club for the day.

Trailing 12-4 entering the ninth, Pohto plated the final run of the game on a Chris Geronimo single. Pohto doubled and advanced on a wild pitch preceding Geronimo's RBI hit with two outs on the scoreboard.

Torero Michael Wagner (1-0) proved to be the winner of the day, allowing three runs on six hits with two strikeouts in four innings.

Making his fourth start of the season, UNO's Garrett Manning (0-4) allowed five runs on six hits, while walking four in 2 2/3 innings.

UNO will continue its season on Wednesday at 6 p.m. when it makes the short trip south to Thibodaux, La. to face Nicholls State. The Colonels will host Southern on Tuesday before facing the Privateers.
