LYNCHBURG, Va. – The University of New Orleans' weekend in Virginia concluded with a 5-2 loss to Liberty on Sunday afternoon.
A trio of LU (25-19) pitchers combined to hold UNO (3-42) to just five hits in the ball game.
The Privateers extended their streak of run-producing games to 11 straight contests by putting two runs on the scoreboard in the ninth.
Ryan Cordell and Zach Haley led the Flames with matching 3-for-3 performances that were accompanied by two runs apiece.
The duo were nearly identical throughout the day, leading off the fifth and seventh innings with consecutive singles before coming home on sacrifice flies in both frames to bolster the LU lead to 5-0, after a single run in the first.
On the mound, Flames' starter Blake Forslund (1-2) was the first to hold the Privateers off the scoreboard, allowing two hits and striking out six in four innings. Jacob Kemmerer followed with four innings of no-hit ball.
UNO finally came through in the ninth inning, putting together two runs on three hits off of LU reliever Willi Martin.
Michael Tedesco went 2-for-4 in the game for the Privateers, including a run in the ninth while Jake Palmisano added the other score. Michael Ballero and Blake LeBlanc accounted for the RBIs in UNO's last appearance at the plate.
Privateer right-hander Scott Stonestreet dropped to 1-4 on the season in his sixth start of the year. The freshman allowed three runs – two earned – on four hits, while striking out two in four innings.
UNO will play two more games before entering their annual break for finals.
The Privateers will host Southeastern Louisiana on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. before visiting McNeese State on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
