NEW ORLEANS – North Florida was able to overcome a six-run fourth inning by the University of New Orleans to pick up a 12-7 win on Friday afternoon at Maestri Field.
A two-run home run by Sam Perry in the sixth inning turned the tide in favor of UNF (27-26).
The Ospreys trailed 7-6 entering the frame before Perry's blast contributed to a 3-for-4 outing for the third baseman that included three runs and four RBIs.
Zach Pohto and Corey Laudermill led UNO (3-50) with two hits apiece.
Leading 1-0 after a run in the second inning, UNF added two more in the fourth after tallying their first hit of the game around two Privateer errors to take a 3-0 lead.
UNO responded with six runs in the bottom of the fourth to move ahead 6-3 when Ospreys' starter Tyler Moore ran into trouble with his control. Moore walked four Privateer batters – two with the bases loaded – while throwing a wild pitch that allowed another run to come home.
UNF bounced back with three runs in the fifth to knot the game at six before Michael Tedesco lifted his first career home run over the left field wall to move UNO back ahead.
The two-run home run by Perry put UNF in the driver's seat with an 8-7 lead, giving the victory to Chandler Jagodzinski (2-1). Jagodzinski replaced Moore in the fifth inning and allowed one hit over 3 1/3 innings, striking out three.
The Ospreys added to their lead with a run in the seventh and three more in their last trip to the plate on way to producing the final score.
Cory Hoffman dropped to 0-1 on the season for UNO after allowing three runs on seven hits during three innings. Hoffman relieved Nolan Church, who allowed six runs – four earned – on six hits in five innings.
The season concludes on Saturday at 1 p.m. for both squads. The Privateers will honor six seniors prior to first pitch in a ceremony slated to start at approximately 12:45 p.m.
