Lindenwood Rebounds Way to Victory over Lady Privateers

NEW ORLEANS – Lindenwood took advantage of the glass for 40 minutes in defeating the University of New Orleans women's basketball team 74-40 on Saturday afternoon at Lakefront Arena.

LU (8-5) grabbed 59 total rebounds for the game, including 25 on the offensive glass.

The Lions out-rebounded UNO (0-15) 36-13 in the first 20 minutes of the contest and 59-28 for the game.

Caroline Bourlioux was the top rebounder for LU, coupling her 10 rebounds with 10 points for a double-double. Marissa Lehnig was the leading scorer with 12 points for the Lions with the pair of Julie Hlinak and Meagen Hittle scoring 11 apiece.

The Lady Privateers were led by Keri Thomas, who scored 19 points for the contest. Mirjam Sipos added 13 points and a team-high seven rebounds.

UNO started 0 of 6 for the game before Thomas connected on a jumper with 15:34 remaining in the opening half.

The Thomas basket was one of just three field goals in the first half for UNO, who shot 3 of 25 heading into the intermission. Thomas added another jumper with 40 seconds left in the opening half with Sipos accounting for the other first half basket at the 13:47 mark.

LU led 36-13 at the half with the majority of the Lady Privateer points coming from a solid effort at the charity stripe, where they connected on 7 of 9 attempts.

The second half presented a much improved offensive effort for UNO.

The Lady Privateers shot 10 of 29 from the field over the second half and produced 27 points, more than double their output in the opening half.  Thomas connected on 4 of 7 attempts from the field to account for 10 of the points with Sipos scoring nine times in the second half.

LU's advantage in the second half grew to a high of 38 points before they were held without a field goal for the final 2:30 of gametime.

UNO will head to Mobile on Tuesday for a 5:30 p.m. contest against the Rams. The contest is the first of two straight trios down I-10 to Mobile, Ala. with a game against Spring Hill to follow on Jan. 16.
