GULF SHORES, Ala. – The New Orleans men's golf team will return to competition for the second week in a row as they take part in the Arkansas State Fall Beach Classic beginning Monday.
The tournament will consist of 54 holes featuring two rounds of golf on Monday at Peninsula Golf Club before concluding with a final 18 holes on Tuesday.
In addition to UNO and host ASU, the 13-team field includes Illinois State, Murray State, Nicholls State, Rice, Southeastern Louisiana, Stephen F. Austin, Tennessee-Martin, Texas-Pan American, Troy, UALR and Vanderbilt.
Privateer head coach Chris McCarter will enter the same lineup that led the squad to a fifth place finish at the SFA Crown Classic last weekend. The fifth place showing was UNO's highest placement of the season and best since a fourth place finish at the Derrall Foreman Intercollegiate in Sept. 2011.
Topping the lineup is junior
Bryan Odaiyar, who leads UNO with a 75.3 scoring average and a trio of top 25 showings. Odaiyar has provided the Privateers with their top score in the last two events.
Junior
Hunter Smith is second on the squad with a 77.1 scoring clip followed by fellow juniors
Jordan Cardwell (78.9) and
Trey Neck (79.3).
Rounding out the lineup is freshman
Greg Palmer, who is fifth on the roster with a 79.7 scoring average. In his collegiate debut, Palmer ranked second on the squad, placing 23
rd.
