UNO Women's Golf Falls to William Carey in Return to Competition

Privateers Scheduled to Play at West Georgia Next Month

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The University of New Orleans women's golf team returned to competition for the first time in nearly seven years, falling in a dual match against William Carey on Wednesday.

The four-member WCU squad combined for a score of 362 to defeat UNO, which shot a 513.

Mia Hock was the top player in the Privateer lineup with a 116 and was followed by Emily Ziegler and Emily Boudreaux with scores of 129 and 133, respectively. Kristin Kelley put forth the final score that counted with a 135 with Rosine Pema Sanga rounding out the UNO competitors with a 136.

“The women got their first 18 holes of golf in as a team and they hopefully walked away with some good things to learn from,” said UNO head coach Chris McCarter.

WCU's top score came from Summer Struzinski, who posted an 80. The remaining three golfers all broke 100 with Elena Gage (90), Aubry Coop (93) and Hayley Ward (100) counting towards the Crusaders' results.

Wednesday's dual was the Privateers' first intercollegiate competition since the 2005 Sun Belt Conference Championships as the program was suspended in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

UNO will continue their spring season next month when they participate in the West Georgia Golf Invitational on Mar. 17 and 18.
