NEW ORLEANS – A pair of squads that go by the acronym 'UNO' will take to the floor on Saturday at 12 p.m. inside Lakefront Arena as the University of New Orleans women's basketball team hosts the University of Nebraska-Omaha in its home finale.
The game will be broadcast on WGSO 990 AM with additional video coverage available on UNOPrivateers.com.
The New Orleans-based UNO is 0-23 on the season and coming off its closest defeat yet, an 85-83 setback against Mobile on Monday night.
The Lady Privateers set season-highs in numerous offensive categories as
Keri Thomas and
Mirjam Sipos scored 30 and 25 points, respectively. Thomas is averaging 17.5 points per game over the last six contests while Sipos bolstered her team-best scoring average to 12.9 points an outing.
The duo's scoring efforts also rank as two of the top four scoring performances by a UNO women's basketball player since the 2008-09 season. Sipos already accounted for one of the marks with a career-high 26 last season against Dallas Christian.
Megan Buckley has also joined in the scoring as of late, posting 13 points in consecutive games while also shooting at an even 50 percent during the stretch on 11 of 22 shooting. Buckley's passing also played a large role in keeping Monday's game close as she notched a career-best six assists.
The Omaha-based Mavericks are 14-11 on the season and are playing their first game since a 68-54 win over Dakota Wesleyan on Feb. 10, 2012. The squad is currently in the midst of a transition from NCAA Division II to the Summit League of NCAA Division I.
The Mavericks are 2-9 against NCAA Division I programs this year with road wins at Western Illinois ant UT-Arlington.
Jamie Nash and Paige Frauendorfer are the top scorers for Nebraska's UNO with 12.9 and 12.8 points per game, respectively. Frauendorfer is also the team's leading rebounder at 9.2 boards a game.
Saturday's contest is the first meeting between the two UNO squads.
Following this game, the Lady Privateers will finish their season on the road with contests at Delta State on Feb. 23 and at The Castle against Southern-New Orleans on Feb. 27. Both are scheduled for 6 p.m. starts.
