MOBILE, Ala. – After splitting their first four games of the season at home, the University of New Orleans baseball team will hit the road for four straight beginning on Tuesday at 2 p.m. against Mobile.
UNO (2-2) has not played since a 12-3 win on Feb. 14 against Stillman at Maestri Field.
The contest featured the most runs produced by a Privateer squad since the team took an 11-5 win at Rosenblatt Stadium against Creighton on May 22, 2010.
The top four spots in the lineup produced in a big way in the Stillman victory, accounting for six runs and six RBIs.
Beau Boudreaux tallied three of the scores in his first appearance of the campaign in the No. 2 slot of the lineup and enters the week leading UNO in batting average (.500) and slugging percentage (1.500).
Blake LeBlanc and
Clint Coleman have also provided a spark near the top of the lineup.
LeBlanc is hitting .438 with seven hits and three RBIs, joining Boudreaux at one RBI shy of Coleman for the team lead. Coleman's four RBIS accompany a .385 batting average and team-bests in runs (seven) and stolen bases (two).
Christian Cale (2-0, 1.80 ERA) has taken the mound the last two Tuesdays. Cale has thrown five innings in both of his starts while allowing a single earned run in both starts.
The bullpen has shut the door on the opposing squad in both outings and been a consistent presence through four games. The relievers under the direction of UNO pitching coach Justin Garcia have a 0.53 ERA over 17 innings with 13 strikeouts and a .172 opponent batting average.
UM is 3-6 on the season and snapped a five-game losing streak with a 10-2 win against Spring Hill on Sunday. The Rams' struggles have occurred early in the game, being outscored 26-5 over the first three innings.
Braxton Hamil is hitting .433 with five doubles and four RBIs to lead UM this season. Ryan Waltman and Ryne Phillips are hitting .364 and .297 while leading the Rams with five RBIs apiece.
Seven different pitchers have thrown at least five innings for UM on the season. The team has a 5.19 ERA with opposing batters hitting .300 against the Rams through nine games.
UNO will follow its trip to Mobile with a three-game weekend set at LSU-Alexandria. The teams are scheduled to play Friday at 6 p.m. before a doubleheader on Saturday at 12 p.m.
