NEW ORLEANS – The University of New Orleans nearly overcame a five-run deficit in a 7-4 loss to William Carey on Wednesday night at Maestri Field.
UNO (1-2) found itself trailing 5-0 in the game after allowing four runs to WCU (3-3) in a second inning and a fifth run in the third inning
The second frame featured two extra-base hits for the Crusaders, a pair of walks and a passed ball. The fifth run came an inning later in an at-bat in which WCU capitalized on an error in the outfield.
All five runs came against Privateer starter

The UNO rally cut into the deficit with three runs in the fourth.
Blake LeBlanc led off the at-bat with a double followed by a
Dan Perkins single. The duo had two hits apiece in the contest and came around to score on a
Clint Coleman double. Coleman – who also had two hits in the game for the Privateers – scored on a single by
Jake Palmisano.
After a WCU score in the seventh inning to make it 6-3, the Privateers next threat came in the eighth with three hits. LeBlanc and Coleman accounted for singles in the frame with LeBlanc scoring for the second time when Palmisano was walked with the bases loaded and two outs.
UNO would not add another run and left three stranded to conclude the inning. The Crusaders closed the scoring in the ninth with the Privateers ending the contest with a total of seven players left on base throughout the game.
