HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The University of New Orleans and Alabama-Huntsville split a doubleheader on Saturday at Charger Field. UAH (15-13) won the opening contest 5-4 in 10 innings before UNO (9-8) responded with a 3-2 victory in the second game.
The victory for the Privateers ended a seven-game winning streak for the hosts with UNO senior right-handed pitcher
Cory Myers (1-0) picking up his first win since Apr. 5, 2009 against Grambling State.
Myers delivered for head coach Bruce Peddie's squad in his first start since Mar. 12, 2011 by allowing just two runs on five hits during five innings on the mound.
Freshman
Alex Smith pitched the final two innings to nail down his first career save while inducing two fly balls to preserve the victory in the seventh after UAH had a runner at third base with just a single out.
All three UNO runs in the game came in the opening frame.
Blake LeBlanc and
Dan Perkins reached base to lead off the contest with a
Brandon Simon single scoring LeBlanc.
Seth Laigast and
Jonathan Coco also added RBIs in the inning.
Myers held UAH off the scoreboard until the third inning when they plated two runs. The scores were the lone ones of the day for the Chargers, who had seven hits in the game.

The win for the Privateers was in response to a game the team could not close out in the opener.
UAH strung together three straight singles with one out on the board in the 10
th inning to plate the game-winning score for an extra-inning victory. The 10
th inning run was the first of the contest by either team since the Chargers knotted the score at 4-all in the fifth inning.
Garrett Manning (0-2) took the loss for UNO. Manning retired just one batter in the 10
th, allowing one run on three hits after keeping the game alive by getting out of a ninth inning jam by inducing a double play.
The Chargers' Cody Barrett (4-2) picked up the win by allowing a single hit in one frame of work. Barrett relieved Drew Eiland, who allowed four runs on eight hits, while striking out eight in nine innings of duty on the mound.
LeBlanc led UNO with a 4-for-5 performance at the plate, including a lead-off triple in the opening inning before scoring on a
Beau Boudreaux single. A Simon home run in the second inning put the Privateers ahead 2-0.
UAH responded with two runs of their own in the bottom of the second to knot the game. UNO's final scores of the contest came in the fifth when LeBlanc lifted a two-run shot over the left field wall.
Ty Chancelor went 3-for-4 to lead the Chargers, including the equalizer – a two-run home run in the bottom half of the fifth that represented the final run by either side until extra innings.
The Privateer bullpen received a lift from
Cory Hoffman and
Kyle Blancaneaux, who threw a combined 3.1 innings of scoreless relief to give UNO a chance to take the game. The Privateers had just one runner in scoring position after the fifth with Perkins standing at second with a single out before UAH retired two in a row.
