Privateer Men's Tennis Concludes Homestand with Pair of Weekend Matches

UNO's Final Home Matches of Season Until Finale

NEW ORLEANS – The University of New Orleans men's tennis team will end a 12-day hiatus from action with a pair of matches beginning on Saturday at 10 a.m. against William Carey and continuing on Sunday at 10 a.m. against Auburn-Montgomery.

This weekend's duals complete a seven-match homestand for UNO (7-2).

In the team's last appearance on the court, the Privateers were tied 2-2 in a match suspended due to weather against UT-Pan American on Mar. 12. Hossam Meligy was the lone UNO player to win a complete singles' match against the Broncs, winning in straight sets at the No. 3 court.

The win was the sixth in a row Meligy, who improved to 7-3 on the dual season and equaled David Malmgren for the longest winning streak on the team presently. Malmgren is 8-1 during the spring with a 7-1 mark when playing at the No. 4 position in the lineup.

Yoshikazu Ysa with a 7-2 record and a five-match winning streak is the other Privateer currently on a roll in singles' play.

This week's opponents are both nationally-ranked with WCU (5-2) at No. 13 and AUM (8-6) at No. 5 in the most recent NAIA national polls.

WCU is scheduled to hose Emmanuel College on Friday afternoon before arriving to the Lakefront.  The Crusaders have won five in a row entering the weekend with both of their losses coming on the road in Louisiana against Nicholls State and Xavier (La.)

Jody Claassen with a 7-0 record is the top singles' play followed by Younes Hidass and Robin Semal with matching 5-1 marks. Doubles is where WCU has made its mark with a 17-4 record with a pair of tandems entering the week with unblemished 6-0 records.

AUM is scheduled to play XULA on Saturday to begin a two-match swing through the Crescent City. The Warhawks defeated the NAIA's No. 15 squad Lee 9-0 on Wednesday to end a three-match skid of 5-4 losses to Florida programs competing at the NCAA Division II level.

Leading AUM with a 13-1 record in singles' play  is Marlu Jansen Van Vuuren. The doubles' tandem of Zinelabidine Jouini and Nicolas Pinones-Haltenhoff are the top pairing with a 10-1 mark.

UNO will embark on a seven-match road swing following the weekend. The trip begins on Mar. 31 at Saint Leo's and concludes Apr. 7 in Pensacola, Fla. against UC-San Diego.
