NEW ORLEANS – The University of New Orleans baseball program will host Mobile at Maestri Field on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. before venturing to Tougaloo on Wednesday for a 12 p.m. doubleheader.
UNO (12-14) will seek an in-season home-and-home sweep of UM (18-19) after picking up a 5-4 victory on Feb. 21. The Tuesday contest against the Rams will be broadcast live on WGSO 990 AM and available on the Internet at WGSO.com. Stat updates can be accessed on UNOPrivateers.com.
The Privateers enter the week after producing 31 hits during a three-game series against Christian Brothers. CBU won 2 of 3 against UNO, which was led at the plate by
Clint Coleman, who hit .462 over the weekend.
Coleman carries a five-game hitting streak into Tuesday and has collected nine hits in his last 21 at-bats to go along with six runs and three RBIs during the current stretch.
The outfielder's recent surge has lifted him to No. 2 on the UNO roster in batting average at .319, percentage points behind team-leading
Cameron Wheeless (.330).
Zach Pohto is third for the Privateers with a .319 batting average. Pohto has seven hits in his last 16 at-bats.
Potential midweek starters include
Casey Kelton (0-0, 6.00 ERA) and
Cory Myers (1-1, 8.56). Kelton made his first appearance in a start last Monday at Spring Hill while Myers threw three scoreless innings of relief over the weekend.
UM is led by Ryne Phillips and Ryan Waltman, who bat .382 and .339 respectively. Phillips has scored a team-high 27 runs while Waltman tops the squad with 26 RBIs.
Rams' sophomore right-handed pitcher Jacob Knowles (1-2, 4.96 ERA) started the last contest against the Privateers and is one of six pitchers with at least four starts on the season.
Knowles allowed two runs on five hits during a five-inning appearance against UNO in February before being relieved by Cole Vaughan (3-1, 4.59). Vaughan has paired with Knowles to start most of UM's mid-week contests this season.
TU (4-31) has dropped six in a row since sweeping a doubleheader of Division II Lane College on Mar. 20. All four Bulldog wins this season have come against Lane.
Dustin Porter is the top hitter for TU with a .333 batting average, 23 runs and eight RBIs. Kevin Hastings (1-3, 11.42 ERA) and A.J. Sanders (1-5, 9.77) are possible starters for the Bulldogs.
Following the midweek games, UNO will return to Maestri Field for a 6:30 p.m. contest on Friday against West Alabama. The game begins a three-game series which also includes a Saturday doubleheader.
