UNA Posts Pair of Saturday Wins against Privateers

FLORENCE, Ala. - No. 19 North Alabama posted a pair of wins over the University of New Orleans on Saturday, winning the opener 5-4 in 10 innings before completing the doubleheader sweep with a 4-0 result.

UNA (33-12) started the afternoon by rallying from a 4-2 deficit entering the bottom of the eighth. The Lions plated a run in the eighth, knotted the score in the ninth and walked off with the victory in the 10th.

Josh Doyle led off the extra inning with a walk and would later score on a Josh Cyr sacrifice fly against UNO (14-25) relief pitcher Kyle Blancaneaux (0-2). The loss was the first in 14 games when leading after six innings for the Privateers.

UNO trailed 1-0 before getting on the board with a pair of runs in the fourth. Clint Coleman and Beau Boudreaux both scored for the Privateers after consecutive one-out singles earlier in the frame.

After UNA matched the score with a run in the fifth, the Privateers posted single tallies in the seventh and eighth to take a 4-2 lead. A Blake LeBlanc RBI single scored Stefan Farrell in the seventh with an error in the eighth allowing Boudreaux to make his way home after he produced a two-out double.

Boudreaux was 3-for-5 with two runs to lead UNO.  Privateer relief pitcher Kyle Zara exited the game with a 4-3 lead before Garrett Manning was responsible for the blown save opportunity in the ninth.

UNA relief pitcher Ben Seabook (1-1) was the winning pitcher after holding UNO without a hit in the 10th. Lions' starter Johnny Hornbuckle allowed four runs – three earned – on nine hits in 7.2 innings.

UNA's Jake Sloan was 3-for-5 with Andrew Almon and Drew Parker producing a pair of hits.

In the second contest, the Lions jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the third. The hosts added two more in the fifth and a final run in the sixth against the Privateers, who were riddled by four errors in the game.

Jake Fabre (4-7) threw his second complete game in a row in the loss. Fabre allowed four runs – two earned – on eight hits while striking out five. Fabre has not walked an opposing player in his last two starts.

The Lions received a complete game shutout from Michael Watkins (6-1). Watkins scattered five hits while striking out six in his victory. Doyle was 2-for-4 to lead UNA, which also received a pair of hits from Drew Humphrey.
