NEW ORLEANS – West Alabama became the first team to sweep a doubleheader against the University of New Orleans this season, winning both contests on Saturday afternoon at Maestri Field.

UWA (19-16) claimed the opening game 6-1 before completing the sweep with a 4-1 victory in the second contest. The loss was the sixth in a row for a UNO (12-18) squad that had split six of their seven previous twinbills alongside a sweep of LSU-Alexandria in February.

In the opening contest, five Privateer miscues proved costly. The first three runs scored by the Tigers were unearned with the guests also capitalizing on nine stolen bases in the contest.

UWA plated a pair of runs in the fifth and one in the sixth before posting their first earned tally of the contest in the seventh. The four scores came against UNO starter Cory Myers (1-2), who yielded seven hits and struck out three during seven innings of work.

The Tigers added another run in the eighth and ninth innings off Privateer reliever Kyle Blancaneaux to finalize their scoring.

The lone UNO run scored against Nick Bolleter (3-2) came in the eighth when Seth Laigast led off the inning with a double. Laigast was 2-for-3 in the contest and advanced home on a pair of ground balls.

Bolleter ended up with a complete game for the Tigers by scattering five Privateer hits and striking out four. The Tigers' Tyler Richburg went 4-for-5 with three RBIs and accounted for three of UWA's stolen bases in the game.

The Tigers received a solid performance on the mound from Jessie Boyd (6-4) in the second contest. The left-handed Boyd allowed just two hits in six official innings while striking out five.

UWA scored a single run in the first before being held off the scoreboard until the fifth inning by UNO starter Jake Fabre (3-6). The Tigers added two in the fifth and a fourth run in the sixth to take a 4-0 lead against Fabre and the Privateers.

Fabre exited after six innings, conceding four runs – three earned – on 10 hits while striking out three. Kyle Zara retired three straight UWA batters in one inning of relief.

The Privateers took advantage of a pair of walks issued by Boyd in the seventh, ending the starter's day. A Kyle Denny RBI single plated UNO's lone run against Tigers' reliever Jeremy White, who picked up his fourth save.

Denny along with Clint Coleman and Blake LeBlanc accounted for the Privateers' hits. LeBlanc's hit extended his hitting streak to nine, the second-longest of the season.

D.J. Turo was 3-for-4 for the Tigers, who also received a pair of hits from Richburg and Ladarrius Cole.

UNO will remain home for a Tuesday contest at Maestri Field against McNeese State. The 6:30 p.m. game is the final mid-week home contest of the year for the Privateers.
