Five UNO Student-Athletes Received Degrees Friday Night

Group Includes Student-Athletes from Cross Country, Tennis and Baseball Programs

NEW ORLEANS – Five University of New Orleans student-athletes were amongst the 963 graduates that walked across the stage on Friday night at Lakefront Arena as part of the institution's spring commencement ceremonies.

The group of student-athletes included Kozue Matsumoto (interdisciplinary studies) and Sofija Karalic (finance), who were original members of the UNO women's tennis team when it was reinstated during the 2008-09 academic year.

The cross country squad was represented by Joshua Aiken (accounting) and Andrew Boudreaux (Earth and Environmental Sciences). Pitcher Cory Myers (business management) rounded out the quintet following a successful tenure with the Privateer baseball team.

Friday's graduation served as the first for UNO President Dr. Peter Fos.  Entergy Corporation executive vice president and chief operating officer Mark Savoff served as the principal speaker at the ceremony.
