MYRTLE BEACH, SC. -The North Carolina Tar Heels (9-2) raced out to a big early lead and never looked back as they took a 124-41 victory over the New Orleans Privateers (0-9) at the Beach Ball Classic in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
The Tar Heels scored the first 17 points of the contest before the Privateers got on the board at the 14:17 mark of the first half on a
Dannisha Jackson jumper. North Carolina responded with another 13-0 run after that basket to push their lead to 30-2.
Octavia Wilson notched a new career high for UNO, scoring 21 points on 7 of 18 from the field. She also made 5 of 13 three point attempts.  Wilson hit two triples in the opening half for the Privateers. She notched her second straight double-figure scoring effort by the end of the first half with 10 points. It's the first time a Privateer woman has gone over 20 points in a game since
Mechel'le Thomas scored 20 points at Texas Pan-American to end last season.Â
Danielle Davis scored 8 points, alll coming in the second half.

North Carolina was overwhelming on the night though as they forced 26 turnovers and shot 64.3 percent from the floor. They carried a 72-18 lead into the half with 40 of their points coming in the paint. The Tar Heels as a team out-rebounded the Privateers 52-15 on the night.
Six Tar Heels scored in double figures including Allisha Gray and Diamond DeShields who each scored 20 points. Latifah Coleman added 13 points and 12 assists.Â
The Privateers continue their five-game road trip with a contest in Hattiesburg, Mississippi against the Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles on Saturday. Tip is scheduled for 2 p.m.
