Orem, UTAH - The New Orleans Privateers women's basketball team (0-11) were victimized by two big runs in the first half as they fell 89-49 to the Utah Valley Wolverines (3-10) at the UCCU in Orem, Utah.
The Privateers battled back and forth with Utah Valley through the first four minutes.
Mathilde Fogelstrom hit a jumper to tie the game at 7-7 early on. From then, the Wolverines hit their first big run, as they scored the next 13 points of the contest.
New Orleans strung together back-to-back buckets to pull the deficit back down to single digits at 20-11, but the Wolverines responded with a 16-2 run to put the game well out of reach. Utah Valley went to the half with a 49-21 lead.
Danielle Davis was held scoreless in the first half, but exploded in the second half for a team-high 17 points.
Jewel Angelo added 13 points to the scoring effort. The Privateers as a team shot just 26 percent (19-73) from the field.
Utah Valley was led by Rhaiah Spooner-Knight who had 20 points including 14 in the first half alone. Katie Kuklok added 12 points and Tina Doughty contributed 10 off the bench. The Wolverines shot 49.2 percent and were 8-for-19 from three-point range as a team. Utah Valley also attempted 32 free throws to just 10 for the Privateers.
New Orleans will head into conference play next as they will take on Nicholls State on Jan 2. Tip is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
