PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – The New Orleans women's tennis team posted its first win of the season, defeating Prairie View A&M 5-0 on Saturday afternoon.
The sweep by UNO (1-3) was the squad's first since a 9-0 win over Christian Brothers on Mar. 5, 2012.
Kristina Martic and
Soledad Calderon Arroyo won their second straight match to get the dual started, besting the PV (1-3) duo of Brittany Harrell and Lerato Ndlovu 8-1 at the No. 1 position.
Marta Sans and
Fanny Benincasa followed with an 8-2 win at the No. 2 court with
Paula Jimenez Sanchez and
Victoria Svensson completing the doubles' sweep with an 8-4 victory at the No. 3 position.
In singles' play, the Privateers made quick work of the four completed matches, taking each in straight sets.
Sans rolled Harrell 6-3, 6-3 at the No. 1 court with Martic and Calderon adding victories at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions, respectively. The most convincing win in singles' action came from Benincasa, a 6-0, 6-0 winner over Erika Bond on the No. 4 court.
The season will continue this Wednesday at City Park for the Privateers, who will visit Tulane for a 5 p.m. dual.
