UNO-MSU Box Score
NEW ORLEANS – Murray State raced out of the gate, scoring 16 of the first 18 points in a 69-56 victory over New Orleans at Lakefront Arena on Wednesday.
The strong start by MSU (15-7) came as UNO (1-18) missed 11 of its 12 shot attempts at the onset of the game. The Racers' lead grew to a game-high of 23 points at 32-9 with 3:56 remaining before the half.
Mirjam Sipos scored eight of her 19 points as the Lady Privateers responded by scoring 11 straight points to finish the first half. Sipos connected on consecutive three-pointers to ignite the rally, which closed the gap to 32-20 at the intermission.
In the second half, UNO continued to close the deficit. A
Keri Thomas jumper with 15:49 left in the contest made the score 40-32 in favor of MSU, the first time the Lady Privateers had trailed by single digits since the 13:45 mark of the first half.
Thomas scored a team-high 21 points for the game, including 16 in the final 20 minutes. The effort could not overcome the Racers. MSU pushed the lead back into double-digits by scoring the next five points and remained ahead by at least 10 for much of the remainder of the contest.
The Racers' Mariah Robinson had a double-double, scoring 21 points along with 11 rebounds. Erika Sisk added a team-high matching 21 points for MSU, which won their sixth straight.
The Lady Privateers will now head to Houston Baptist on Saturday for a 2 p.m. contest before hosting CSU Bakersfield (Feb. 11) and Utah Valley (Feb. 14) at Lakefront Arena.
