HOUSTON – The New Orleans baseball team completed its four-game weekend at Cougar Field with an 8-3 loss to the University of Houston on Sunday afternoon.
UH (16-4) won its fifth contest in a row, rallying from a 2-1 deficit by producing seven runs over the team's final three at-bats. The Cougars started its offensive surge over the last few innings by plating four runs in the sixth before following it with two runs in the seventh and one in the eighth.
The sixth inning ended the day for UNO (3-18) starting pitcher
Alex Smith (0-5).
Prior to the frame, Smith had allowed just a single run and five hits before filling the bases with UH base runners in the sixth with a single out. The Privateer right-handed pitcher finished out the contest with 5.1 innings of time to his credit with four runs scored on six hits.
UNO's offensive production began with two runs in the fourth.

Reese Kanter in the frame which put the Privateers in the lead 2-1.
The lead would last until the sixth inning when UH move ahead 5-2 before building up its' game-high six-run advantage by the conclusion of the eighth inning.
The final tally for UNO came in the ninth when
Zach Liberto produced his first career home run. Kanter led the Privateers with a 2-for-4 effort at the plate with six other members of the UNO lineup producing a single hit.
Tyler Ford (2-0) picked up the victory for UH by allowing a single hit while pitching 2.2 innings in the middle of the contest. The Cougars' top performer at the plate was Frankie Ratcliff, who went 3-for-4 with two RBIs, both coming on a two-out triple in the seventh inning.
The Privateers will return to action on Tuesday at 3 p.m. against Tulane at Turchin Stadium. The game time was recently changed due to the restrictions related to the amount of night games the Uptown school can host at their facility.

With his 2-for-4 outing on Sunday,
Reese Kanter batted .357 (5-for-14) on the weekend. The total for Kanter included a pair of runs and a stolen base… In each of his six starts this season, Privateer pitcher
