NEW ORLEANS, La. – The New Orleans Privateers women's tennis team (4-5, 1-2 Southland) starts a weekend two-match conference swing on Saturday when they take on the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles (1-6, 0-4) at the University Tennis Center.
The Privateers are coming off a 5-2 loss against Abilene Christian in their last out on Wednesday. New Orleans has alternated wins and losses over the span of the last five matches, and just completed a span of four matches in six days.
Anna Segarra Rius continues to show strong play in singles, staying undefeated after Wednesday. Down 5-4 in the first set, Rius broke the serve of Abilene Christian's Brittney Reed while playing at the No. 2 position and eventually finished off Reed in straight sets at 7-5, 6-3. Rius has played the last two matches at the No. 2 position after starting the dual meet fourth in the rotation.
Hafsa Laraibi has won back-to-back singles matches heading into the weekend, after dropping her previous three singles contests. Laraibi has also been bumped up in the rotation to the 4 spot over the last two matches.
Oral Roberts checks in with their only win of the season coming against Grambling. The Golden Eagles lost two matches on Wednesday to Nicholls State and Xavier. In four conference matches, Oral Roberts has been swept twice. The season opened with Oral Roberts falling to 28th ranked Tulsa.
The match is the first of two Southland home duals, and is set to begin at 11 a.m. New Orleans will also take on Central Arkansas on Sunday.
