NEW ORLEANS, La. – The New Orleans Privateers women's tennis team (5-5, 2-2 Southland) dominated en route to a 7-0 win over the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles (1-7, 0-5) on Saturday at the University Tennis Center.
The Privateers began the morning by sweeping all three doubles matches.
Grace Nolan and Yasmine Rashad were sharp early, breaking the first three serves of their opponents, Melanie Marlin and Marizanne Bouwer. The match ended at 8-4 after Nolan capped off holding serve with an ace.
Marta Sans and
Soledad Calderon Arroyo were in a tussle early on the second doubles court. Leading only 3-2, Sans and Arroyo dominated the rest of the match while not dropping a game. With the doubles point already secured,
Anna Segarra Rius and
Hafsa Laraibi completed a blue sweep by winning their match 8-6.
Laraibi has continued her hot streak of late in singles play. After coasting to a 6-0, 6-0 victory at the 5 position, Laraibi has now won three of her last four singles matches after dropping four of her previous five. Yasmine Rashad maintained control in her match at the six position, and was part of a group that did not drop a set.
The closest Oral Roberts came to a set victory was at the 4 position when Sans trailed 4-1 against Ximena Puentes. Sans rallied to take the first set 7-6, and parlayed that momentum into a 6-1 victory in the second set.
New Orleans is next scheduled to take on Central Arkansas on Sunday. The match will be for 10 a.m.
