NEW ORLEANS, La. – The New Orleans Privateers baseball team (6-14, 1-5 Southland) begins a six-game home stand with a two-contest set against the Alcorn State Braves (3-22, 3-6 SWAC) on Tuesday at Maestri Field at First NBC Ballpark.
The Privateers dropped two of three in their first road conference series on the weekend at Houston Baptist. After winning the opening game of the series, New Orleans could not sustain early leads in the final two games of the series. So far this season, the Privateers have been out-scored 62-28 in the sixth inning or later excluding extra innings.
Freshman
Hezekiah Randolph continues to move up the ladder in the record books after extending his hitting streak to 16 games at the conclusion of the weekend. Randolph's hitting streak is the sixth longest in Privateers history, and the longest since Johnny Giavotella strung together an 18-game hitting streak in 2008. Randolph is batting a team-leading .362 with three home runs and 14 RBIs.
Junior
Jonathan Coco had a productive weekend while racking up six hits on the series against Houston Baptist. Coco started the season batting .222 (4-for-22) at the plate. In six games since, Coco is batting .409 (9-for-22) and has not struck out in that span.
The Privateers and Braves met for the first time for a two-game series in 2013 with New Orleans taking both contests by scores of 6-5 and 7-5.
Chaz Boyer scored three runs and drove in three in the two games against Alcorn State.
The Braves are led offensively by Moses Charles who paces the team in batting average (.369), runs (16), and stolen bases (16). Earl Burl leads the team in home runs with three, and is batting at a .282 clip entering Tuesday. Alcorn State is batting .241 as a team while opponents are hitting .348 off of Braves pitching.
The two-game set will start on Tuesday night with a first pitch scheduled for 6:30 p.m. The series will conclude on Wednesday with a first pitch also slated for 6:30 p.m.
