Box Score NEW ORLEANS, La. – The New Orleans Privateers baseball team (8-18, 1-8 Southland) rallied from a big early deficit, but fell short in a 9-7 loss to the Southern Miss Golden Eagles (16-13, 6-3 C-USA) on Tuesday at Maestri Field at First NBC Ballpark.
Bradley Roney ended the Privateers rally for his ninth save of the season. After allowing a one-out base runner, Roney recovered to record a check swing strikeout from
Nick Morgan. The game ended with Roney striking out
Dane Landry on a high fastball with a full count.
"The pitching wasn't great, but we still continue to make the same mistakes," said Head Coach
Ron Maestri. "I'm tired of the moral victories. They fought hard, but I told them it's about time you go out and we hit the ball tonight, but we don't know how to win. We're waiting to get beat, and we just don't do the right things."
The Golden Eagles got to starter
Raymond Winter early and jumped ahead 6-0 after the first three innings of play with four of those runs coming in the first inning. The big hit in the first came on a three-run home run by Dylan Burdeaux. Southern Miss added two more runs on a two-run double by Roney in the third. Five of the first six Golden Eagles runs came with two outs.
New Orleans rallied back in the middle innings, scoring two in the fifth to get on the board. The first scored on a wild pitch, and
Samuel Capielano hit an RBI single to short for his first hit of the night, extending his hitting streak to 11.

Brian Dixon hit an RBI single after the bases were loaded from the first three batters of the inning.
Chaz Boyer and Capielano provided back-to-back RBI sacrifice flies in the frame.
Southern Miss got some much needed separation with a run in the seventh and two in the eighth. The run in the seventh scored on a wild pitch when the Privateers were looking to intentionally walk Matt Durst to put a double play in order with one out. Connor Barron hit a two-run single to right to score the last two runs for the Golden Eagles.
Boyer and Capielano provided an RBI double and single respectively to finish the Privateers' scoring on the night. New Orleans collected 13 hits at the plate, and got multi-hit efforts from six different hitters. Winter took the loss to drop to 1-4.
Cody Carroll picked up the win to move to 2-0. Carroll pitched five innings and gave up four runs. Burdeaux drove in three runs, and Barron and Roney each had two RBIs. The Golden Eagles collected nine hits on the night.
