Privateers Endure One-Run Loss at Southeastern

Box Score
HAMMOND, La. – The New Orleans Privateers baseball team (10-25, 2-15 Southland) fell short in a pitcher's duel losing 2-1 to the Southeastern Lions (26-13, 11-6) on Friday night at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field.

Andro Cutura went the distance on the mound, and breezed through the ninth to finish off his third complete game of the year. Cutura retired the 5-6-7 hitters of the Privateers lineup in order and threw 108 pitches. Cutura allowed five hits and the lone run surrendered was unearned. Cutura also recorded eight strikeouts.

The Privateers struck first after getting a bit of fortune to start the third. Zack Reboulet struck out, but reached on a passed ball to start the inning. A sacrifice bunt moved Reboulet to second, and he got to third on a single. Reboulet would come home on an error by Southeastern shortstop Kennon Menard to put the Privateers up 1-0.

Southeastern got two runs in the fourth to take their first advantage. Back-to-back singles by Jameson Fisher and Andrew Godbold set up the frame. A sacrifice bunt moved both runners up to second and third respectively.

Then Brett Hoffman got a fly ball to drop in shallow center for an RBI single. Hoffman tried to advance to second and a throw back from Jonathan Santana was errant, allowing a second run to score to give the Lions a 2-1 lead. Santana was charged with the error, the lone miscue on the evening for the Privateers.

Nick Halliday pitched a complete game in the loss. Halliday allowed six hits and two runs while conceding no walks. It was the first complete game for a New Orleans pitcher this season. Samuel Capielano picked up the only multi-hit effort for the Privateers by going 2-for-4 at the plate.

The two teams will finish the series at Maestri Field at First NBC Ballpark on Saturday with a first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
